Badminton Court Dimensions

If you've ever been curious about the regulations and specifications of a badminton court, including its dimensions & rules, then this article is tailored just for you

Badminton Court Rules:

To initiate a serve, a player must wait until their opponent is prepared, and if the opponent returns the shuttle, it is assumed they were ready.

Both players must keep their feet immobile until the serve is executed, ensuring their feet do not touch the lines.

Responsibility for a missed serve lies with the server, and the racket must not entangle or propel the shuttle. Additionally, a player is prohibited from positioning their racket close to the net to interfere with an opponent's downward smash or disrupt their racket.

Singles Court Dimensions:

Length: The length of a singles badminton court is 13.4 meters (44 feet).

Width: The width of the court is 5.18 meters (17 feet).

Doubles service areas are 10 feet wide and 13 feet long, creating a 130 square foot space.

The poles supporting the net are 5 feet and 1 inch tall, positioned at the center of the court on the doubles lines, and must not extend beyond the 1.57-inch width of the doubles line.

Badminton Net Dimensions:

The badminton net measures 20 feet in width and 2 feet 5.9 inches in height, with an overall area of 89.83 square feet.

Key Points to Remember:

  2. Center Line: Divides the court into two equal halves. Players must stay on their respective sides during service and rallies.

  3. Side Lines: Mark the lateral boundaries of the court. Shots must land within these lines to be considered in play.

  4. Service Courts: The service courts are marked on both sides for singles and each team in doubles. Proper service is crucial for a fair game.
